2009 - 2011 Vancouver Island Business Excellence Award "NOMINEE 2012"
2010 BBB TORCH AWARD
This was so exciting as we won the Business of Excellence Award for Vancouver Island in 2009 by the Business Examiner and again in 2011 In 2010 we received the 2010 Torch Award by the Better Business Bureau all which rather shocked us; as we have a brag book at the shop, which is filled with many thank you's and wonderful things that people think about our Old Style Repair. It was truly neat when upon receiving the award, we received an email from an individual in Alberta who found themselves in a pickle, and we found ourselves fixing the vehicle over the telephone. When they heard we had won the Torch Award, they felt they too should have nominated us, as they still are amazed we would help them from such a distance away, and get the job done. We knew we were nominated, but truly didn't think we could possibly win when we saw the other nominees. We went as we thought it important to congratulate whoever would win in the auto repair category. You never saw two more surprised people.
It actually is quite amazing and interesting having an Auto Repair Shop, as you get to meet and know a wide variety of different individuals, with varied backgrounds, the richest, the most unfortunate, but always incredible human beings. As a passtime Bruce and I do Placer Mining and are very active in the community with Placer Mining. Check out www.vipma.ca and you will be introduced to a wonderful and incredible hobby available on this mecca of an island. This evening, May 26, 2010 Bruce was speaking to a woman from Horsefly, as we are also involved with the BCPMA (Britich Columbia Placer Miners, and this woman has been struggling with her claims and bureucracy to be able to work on them. All of sudden the conversation changes over to him speaking about a Volkswagon. My eyes drift over, and I see Mitchel (diagnostic program) is open, and he is telling this stranded woman from Horsefly who just told him her Volkswagon just died in the driveway and they are 50 miles from anywhere, how to fix her car.
When I first met Bruce of Old Style Repair, what truly amazed me about him, was the respect the community at large had for this gentle giant of a man. In good old gold mining prospector days, via the Internet I became his "Mail Order" Bride so to speak. Since this is where the testimonials are for Old Style and the owner who is Bruce, my testimonial is I packed up everything I wanted to bring from Calgary, sold the rest, and moved to this island because out of 700 gents I spoke with and 70 I had coffee with; only Bruce stood out as awesome, honest, and wouldn't know what a lie was if he tripped over it. He has humor, wit, smarts, and daily I am amazed at his consistancy and natural ability of being just one totally awesome honest human being. If I had a choice between winning a Lotto Max ten times over and Bruce of Old Style, it would be Bruce I'd choose, this type of humanity, devotion and dedication to both his trade and his customers is rare. One of the first things I heard from Bruce, when I first visited Victoria was his business model. "I decided many years ago, there are enough cars in Victoria, that I can make a living being honest, and go to bed at night and sleep well, and so this is what I do." " I'll never be rich, but I will always sleep well." Eight years later, I can attest to that fact, he sleeps really well, and he was right, we're not rich; but we are very happy. (Well that's until he reads this page, as he is rather humble). LOL
